About ibsen.net

01.10.2001
Ibsen.net is the world´s largest website about Henrik Ibsen, as regards both sheer volume of information and number of users.
The pages are available in three languages − Norwegian, English and German − and comprise a resource, knowledge, and information site on Henrik Ibsen´s life and work with a broad appeal. The site presents news and current events, background information, facts and in-depth material. The website contains a calendar of events with ongoing, current information about Ibsen programmes taking place all over the world every day, and also has a discussion forum, quiz games containing hundreds of Ibsen-related questions, columns with clippings from other news agencies´ Ibsen-coverage, a database with the most outstanding and powerful Ibsen-quotes and much, much more.

The launch

Ibsen.net was launched at a ceremony conducted in the Oslo Department of the National Library on 15 January 2002. The opening of the web site was performed by the Minister of Cultural Affairs, Valgerd Svarstad Haugland.

Project organisation

The ibsen.net project was established in 2001 with funding from the National Ibsen Committee of Norway (earmarked grant from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs). In 2006 ibsen.net was the official website for Ibsen year. In July 2007 the editorial office of ibsen.net moved to the National Library of Norway in Oslo. The publishing concept, design and technical framework are supplied by GAN Media.
