100 years of the National Theatre - web exhibitions14.11.2001
In connection with the hundredth jubilee of the National Theatre in the year 2000 two web exhibitions were produced, both by the National Library, containing a wealth of Ibsen material.
The National Theatre`s 100-year Jubilee WebThis is a gallery of pictures from selected stage productions at the National Theatre from 1899 and up to the present day, of the most prominent stage artists and of today`s company. These pages were produced by the National Library in co-operation with the National Theatre. The gallery contains pictures from selected stage productions of Norway`s three greatest dramatists: Ludvig Holberg, Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson and Henrik Ibsen. These pages also have a selection of moving pictures. Go to the pages. "... how the new theatre can become a National Theatre": From the City Hall stage to the National Theatre in Studenterlunden - 100 years of the National TheatreElectronic version of the National Library` exhibition concerning the National Theatre. The exhibition was put on at the National Library in Oslo from August to December 2000.Henrik Ibsen and Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson were central figures in the efforts to get a Norwegian theatre tradition established in Norway. They contributed actively, each in his own way, to the Norwegianising of the Danish Christiania Theater, a process that started in the mid 1850s, and today they stand with good reason like guardian fathers, each on his column, in front of the National Theatre`s building in Oslo. The web exhibition gives some interesting sketches of the history behind the coming into being of the National Theatre and of the actual opening in 1899. Go to the exhibition (in Norwegian). |
